However, there is a law in the royal land that prohibits the craft of glove-making, and all glove-makers have been banished from the country. This happened because a scroll was found in the cradle of the newborn princess, predicting that on her seventeenth birthday, she would marry a glove-maker. This was against the wishes of her royal parents, who wanted a noble groom for their daughter. Their plans are thwarted by the witch Gudrun, who uses her magic to help the young couple find happiness.
